This tuft-forming sedge features an upright yet cascading growth habit, creating a graceful, arching appearance. Its green leaves are approximately 6 mm wide and triangular in cross-section, adding subtle texture to the plant. The stems produce prickly, cylindrical spikelets, which give way to drooping seed heads that can reach up to 8 cm in length.

Native to Ontario.

The root system is fibrous and rhizomatous and often forming colonies of plants. Grows best in full sun or partial shade, and moist to wet conditions.

Cool Season Grasses: These grasses do the majority of their growing in early spring and start again when temperatures start to cool in the fall. During the warmer summer months, they stop growing and some will even go dormant. Cool season grasses flower in the spring or early summer. Most cool season grasses grow best in a consistently moist soil.
