The Pawpaw Tree is compact, low-branching tree that forms a dense, pyramidal to rounded crown, offering a refined yet natural presence in the landscape. In spring, it produces cup-shaped purple flowers, followed by large, slightly drooping green leaves that turn a vibrant yellow late in the fall. Uncommon and intriguing, its green fruit ripens to yellow and finally brown, with a soft, banana-like texture and a tropical flavour blend of banana, mango, and pineapple. A unique addition to edible and ornamental gardens alike.
Native to Ontario.
Pawpaw can be used to naturalize in a native planting or wild garden, or grown in a shrub border or woodland area, especially in damp areas along ponds or streams.
