Also known as Canoe Birch, this striking tree features an upright to oval shape with a rounded crown. Its distinctive white bark peels away in papery strips, and as the tree matures, dark markings develop on the bark, adding to its visual appeal. The oval-shaped leaves are a rich dark green during summer, transitioning to a vibrant yellow in the fall, making it a beautiful choice for seasonal interest.
Native to Ontario.
In autumn, the white bark and yellow foliage make a striking contrast against the bright red leaves of the red maple or dark coloured evergreens. It can be grown as a single-stemmed specimen or multi-stemmed tree.Though paper birches can tolerate drought, they grow best with cool roots. Underplant with a ground cover or mulch well, taking care to not heap mulch against the stem.
