Also known as Barrelhead Gayfeather or Cylindrical Blazing Star, this striking perennial produces fluffy rose-purple flowers on a leafy spike, with blooms that begin opening at the top and progress downward. Its narrow, dark green, grass-like basal leaves can reach up to 20 cm in length. Blooming from July to September, it makes an excellent choice for both cut and dried flower arrangements.
Native to Ontario.
Thrives in full sun, poor soils and dry conditions and is often seen growing on hills or slopes. Drought tolerant, it will also grow in a loamy soil if the site is well-drained.
