The Yellow or 'Ozark' Coneflower is a rare and unique Echinacea species with its bright yellow blooms—hence the name "paradoxa." It features large, daisy-like flowers with gracefully drooping yellow petals and a prominent dark brown central cone. Blooming in midsummer, it's also considered one of the most fragrant Echinacea varieties.
Echinacea plants thrive in full sun but can tolerate some light shade. Plant them in well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Water the plants deeply during the early stages of growth to establish their root system, and then reduce watering once they are established as they are drought-tolerant. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent overwatering and root rot. Deadhead spent flowers to promote continuous blooming and prevent self-seeding, or leave the flower heads intact to attract birds and provide winter interest. Cut the plants back to the ground in late winter or early spring to encourage fresh growth. Echinacea is generally resistant to pests and diseases but monitor for any signs of trouble.
