AKA Rock Hyssop, this perennial blooms slender spikes of deep purple, funnel-shaped flowers, complemented by narrow, lance-shaped, aromatic gray-green leaves. Its stems become woody with age, allowing it to be pruned and shaped into a low border hedge. With evergreen foliage, it serves as an excellent substitute for lavender in the landscape.
Grows best in an average to dry, well-drained soil, in full sun to partial shade. Do not prune back in late fall or winter, instead, prune in early spring to ensure the mature wood maintains a compact habit.
