New fiddleheads of the Brilliance Autumn Fern unfurl in shades of copper, red, and bronze, maturing into striking red-orange fronds. As summer progresses, the foliage deepens to a glossy, rich green, often taking on a reddish hue during dry periods or in autumn. This semi-evergreen fern forms upright, clumping mounds and spreads slowly over time via underground rhizomes.
Dryopteris erythrosora grows best in an average, well-drained soil, in partial shade. Damaged fronds should be cut out in early spring. Avoid sites that are wet in winter.
