This rhizomatous native woodland perennial features solitary cup-shaped white flowers with yellow stamens, among the first to appear in spring. Often emerging through still-folded leaves, it has green, variably-lobed heart- to kidney-shaped foliage. Blooming in early spring, it brings a touch of early-season beauty to your garden.
Native to Ontario.
Grows best in an average to moist, well-drained, fertile soil in partial to full shade. Thrives in some sun where soils remain consistently moist. Foliage often disappears by late summer. Care should be taken when handling this plant, as leaves and other plant parts are skin irritants to some.
