Also known as 'Bride's Feathers', this plant blooms soft plumes of tiny cream-colored flowers from late spring to early summer, rising above dark green, fern-like foliage. As a dioecious species, individual plants produce either male or female flowers, with male plants displaying more prominent blooms. It makes an excellent background plant for moist, shady areas, where its large white plumes stand out beautifully above the delicate greenery.
Native to Ontario.
Soil should be consistently moist as Aruncus will not tolerate long periods of drought. Thrives in partial shade, or full sun if adequate moisture is provided. Finished flowers can be left on (if desired) as the dried plumes look attractive, lasting well into the summer. However, the seeds are slightly toxic. Plants are slow to establish. Some susceptibility to leaf spot, but generally an insect- and disease-free plant.
