A cultivated form of the native Asclepias tuberosa, this perennial features vibrant yellow blooms from June through August. Once the flowers fade, ornamental seed pods develop, adding seasonal interest. An essential food source for Monarch butterfly larvae, it’s a valuable addition to pollinator gardens.
After blooming, this plant can be deadheaded to promote more blooms. Fragrant, fast grower that thrives in full sun and moist soil. Cultivar of the native perennial, growing in a dry to average, well-drained soil and drought tolerant. Slow to emerge in the spring. Mature established plants seed freely. Asclepias tuberosa has a deep tap root and does not like to be disturbed, once established. The tuberous root can rot in poorly drained soils. Susceptible to leaf rust.
