Ohio Buckeye has clusters of single green-white-yellow flowers and green compound leaves emerge in the spring, each with seven spreading oblong leaflets. A smaller-growing Aesculus compared to other cultivars, this type has a broad rounded crown growth shape. Bloom time: mid-spring.

Suitable for a wide variety of soils, with good drought tolerance. Thrives in partial to full sun locations. 

Native to Ontario and other parts of North America. Native Americans reportedly called the fruit of this tree “hetuck” meaning eye-of-the-buck, in reference to the shiny dark mahogany-brown fruit, resembling the eye of a buck deer.
